Welcome to New York, Dominique Strauss-Kahn lawsuit over Gérard Depardieu sex addiction film

Google Movie Search (movies showing in your area with time and theatre information)

Welcome to New York, Gérard Depardieu, Trailer above

Welcome to New York (2014) - IMDb:
Mr. Devereaux is a powerful man. A man who handles billions of dollars every day. A man who controls the economic fate of nations. A man driven by a frenzied and unbridled sexual hunger. A man who dreamed of saving the world and who cannot save himself. A terrified man. A lost man.
Director: Abel Ferrara
Writers: Abel Ferrara (screenplay), Christ Zois (screenplay)
Stars: Jacqueline Bisset, Gérard Depardieu, Drena De Niro

Dominique Strauss-Kahn to sue over Gérard Depardieu sex addiction film | World news | theguardian.com:
" . . . Welcome to New York by Abel Ferrara, which had a private screening on the sidelines of the Cannes film festival at the weekend and has been on pay-per-view in France, is billed as a piece of fiction and comes with a legal disclaimer. Strauss-Kahn's lawyer, however, said the film was defamatory in that its subject matter was similar to the accusations levelled against his client, who resigned from the International Monetary Fund in 2011 after a New York hotel maid accused him of sexual assault. Strauss-Kahn settled a civil case after criminal charges were dropped.... Reporters at the screening were handed a gift bag containing condoms and Viagra. The trade publication Variety reviewed the film as "a sure-fire scandal-starter in France" and said Depardieu's "audacious performance is undeniably the pic's chief selling point," a view shared by most critics." Dr Strangelove, Half-Century Anniversary (video)

Google Movie Search (movies showing in your area with time and theatre information)

Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) HD Trailer above - An insane general starts a process to nuclear holocaust that a war room of politicians and generals frantically try to stop.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) - IMDb: Director: Stanley Kubrick Writers: Stanley Kubrick (screenplay), Terry Southern (screenplay), 2 more credits.... Stars: Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden

The Half-Century Anniversary of 'Dr. Strangelove' : The New Yorker: "...There are actually some standard heroes in the movie: the crew of the B-52, who fly over the frozen north and head toward a Soviet target. As in an old Second World War adventure picture, like “Air Force” or “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo,” the bomber crew is ethnically mixed—in this case, a Texan, a black man, a Jew, and so on. They are about to blow up the world, yet they go through the professional routines of any other bomber crew; the discrepancy between their competence and what’s at stake is excruciating. It’s part of the fiendish malice of the movie that we find ourselves, with a queasy stomach, rooting for the men to complete their mission. Such is the power of movie narrative! Our boys! Doing their job, sacrificing themselves, gamely steering the plane in the right direction even after it’s been partially incapacitated by a Soviet missile. In effect, we wind up satirizing ourselves. Slim Pickens, as the pilot, achieved immortality by riding an H-bomb as it fell, yahooing and whipping his cowboy hat back and forth like a rodeo champion...."

Netflix, dumbed-down algorithms, limited content

Netflix’s big problem, it seems to me, is that it can’t afford the content that its subscribers most want to watch. It could try to by streaming rights to every major Hollywood blockbuster in history — but doing so would cost hundreds of billions of dollars, and could never be recouped with $7.99 monthly fees. What’s more, the studios can watch the Netflix share price as easily as anybody else, and when they see it ending 2013 at $360 a share, valuing the company at well over $20 billion, that’s their sign to start raising rates sharply during the next round of negotiations. Which in turn helps explain why Netflix is losing so many great movies. (source infra)

Another view of Netflix --

Netflix’s dumbed-down algorithms | Felix Salmon: "... Netflix, then, no longer wants to show me the things I want to watch, and it doesn’t even particularly want to show me the stuff I didn’t know I’d love. Instead, it just wants to feed me more and more and more of the same, drawing mainly from a library of second-tier movies and TV shows, and actually making it surprisingly hard to discover the highest-quality content. It’s a bit like what Pandora would be, if Pandora was severely constrained in the songs it could choose from..."
